When I was visiting the area I found that the best deal for the money was the small cafes that served a daily special, or comida corrida. It usually consists of a bowl of soup, a main dish of some meat (pork or chicken) and a sauce, rice and beans. Bread is also sometimes added and makes the meal filling. A drink is added for just a few cents more.
The prices have ranged from $22 pesos (about $1.98US) to $35 pesos (or about $3.25US).
One place we ate at was a buffet for only $35 pesos and was all you can eat. Ask the locals where the best and cleanest places are.
