Any prejudice against US Citizens? Hubert 9-3-08
I don't want this to become a serious debate, but was curious as to the general feeling toward US Citizens when they move to Mexico?

I have heard that there are two prices for everything... one for native Mexican people, and one for Americans. Is there any truth to this?

Also, I love the Mexican people that are in my area, but do they feel good toward us if living in Mexico?

Please don't reply with propaganda, just straight-forward experiences.

Oh, I do speak Spanish enough to get by, although not fluent.

Thanks in advance,

Huby

Yes, there is prejudice. Where is there not? But once you get to know and make an effort to communicate with the Mexicans you don't have problems. It takes time, but worth the effort. For example, if you want to purchase an item that is not priced, then you as a tourist are going to pay more. But once they get to know you and realize you are not the typical "ugly American" you will pay the fair price.

Prejudice exists for many reasons. Mexico is no exception.

Thanks, Jay...

A very honest answer, and one with hope if I devote myself to fitting in, and not acting like the stereotypical American. I appreciate your candid approach.

On another note of commendation, I notice you respond to many of the posts. Believe me, your efforts have helped a lot of people like me.

Thanks for your efforts? Are you the owner of the web site?

My son in the U.S. owns the site and designed it. I do wish more people would respond to the concerns of people wanting to move to Mex. or are just curious.

Take care and if I can help you further, please do not hesitate to write.

MY daughter moved to a small colonia outside of acapulco. She is loved there. When she came home for a 3 week visit, her neighbors called her 3 times.

Good luck to you.
