VW Bus to Mexico darrel 1-25-09  
I am not a hippie or anything (not that I wouldn't be), but I want to drive into Mexico in a VW bus. My reasoning is, 1) I won't stand out as a "rich" American, and I've seen a lot of VW's in Mexico, so I figure, if I break down, they'll have the parts and know-how to fix it.

Also, I can have a small sink, and stove if I want to stop off and make a meal somewhere.

Do you think my thinking is sound? Or, am I as crazy as this sounds?

This is not to say that driving a newer car is dangerous. Many Americans drive new cars and RVs into Mexico, but your idea is not bad; maybe not necessary but certainly not unsound. VW parts are readily available so there should be no problem with breakdowns.

Enjoy your trip. The coastal drive is beautiful. Hi. 80 down Costa Esmeralda.
