Post New Message The first Festival of Flowers (La Feria de Las Flores) took place in Medellin, Colombia in 1957. It was started by the Uribe family, the same family that holds the presidency of Colombia. It lasts for a week every summer. They city of Medellin, which is famous for its flowers and coffee is at an altitude of 5,000 feet. Every day jets leave Medellin for Miami full of cut flowers of roses, carnations and mums for sale in the US. It is a multi-million dollar business and employs many thousands of Colombians.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and it looks like a great idea for Xalapa.
