I make $700US per month, can I live in Xalapa and be happy? Floyd 3-5-09
Right now all I have deposited in my bank account on a monthly basis is $700. I don't need a lot, not even a car. Can I live comfortably in Xalapa, or Coatepec, or any other town nearby? Or is this ridiculous?

Thanks in advance for your candid reply...

$700 is close. You have to consider rent which is not too cheap. Of course if you are not choosey, you might find a place for around $250 or $300 per month. It doesn't take a great deal of money to live in Mex, but eating out can be expensive. If you cook, you can eat well, better than the US, if you shop at the market. I hope others will respond to this query of yours. Maybe they can give you more info. But if you squeeqe abit, you can probably make it.

Jay's right. One would have to be wise with their spending to only live on $700 per month. Eat at home (better cooking anyway in my book). Of course, it can be done, and you don't have to be bottom of the pole to do it, just wise with your spending. It's the unexpected that hurts when on a limited income.

Also, most people come down to Mexico with some savings that they use as a backup on their wages. If you have this, then you have the ability to fall back on or splurge using your savings.

I would try to increase your income by another $200, which will give you a bit of wiggle room.
