Winter larry 12-27-08
I lived in Pensacola, Florida a number of years. In the winter it could rain for days. 48 degrees could feel like 28 degrees as you could be chilled to the bone. Is this also true to Xalapa? I have traveled throughout Mexico and spent time in Guanajuato, San Miguel and Queretaro. Is the congestion and developing smog in Queretaro comparable to these cities and or likely to occur in Xalapa? My wife and I are focus currently on spending the winters in either Xalapa or Oaxaca. Any comments welcome. We currently live in Minneapolis.

The winters here are pleasant. There are some days that are cold, about 55 deg. But very seldom. At the moment we are experiencing 70 to 80 deg. weather. The winters usually are with drizzle some days, but this winter so far has been rather dry.

Traffic congestion is becoming a problem all over the world. No difference here. No smog, but the traffic due to the narrower streets that in the U.S. is building up. Not unbearable, though. Xalapa and Coatepec are not situated in a basin, but are in the open at the foot of Cofre de Perote, about 11,000 feet. But the winds from the East and South keep the area clear.

Hi,
I'm living in rainy Vancouver, BC but looking to relocate this fall to Mexico and am attracted to Xalapa. So, this information about the winter climate was welcome, Jay.
I'm not aware of having a lot of arthritis but I have been aching a lot this past winter with the damp and cold. I had been living the past 8 winters in Victoria, a little drier climate.
So, I'm happy if the winters in Xalapa aren't as rainy as here in Vancouver - because I think the two areas actually have about the same amount of yearly rainfall! But Vancouver gets most of its rain in the late fall and through the winter. Lots of snow right now!
