Having expensive camera gear sent to Xalapa? Christian 12-7-10
Hi,

I would like to have some expensive camera gear sent to me in Xalapa when I am studying there next year. What I would like to know is how safe it is to do so? I have been told it should be fine if I use certain carriers, such as UPS etc. If anyone has any advice it would be most helpful.

Kind Regards
Christian

UPS, Fed. Express, or DHL should be safe. Don't count on other carriers and naturally have the equipment insured to the hilt. If it isn't too heavy, carry it on board if you are flying. It would be cheaper.

The above mentioned carriers are the only ones I would trust.

Fed Ex and DHL are very safe and reliable, but it is Mexican Customs that are difficult. If it is expensive camera equipment you will be required to pay a customs fee-taxes (even if it is used) if it is sent to you. If you carry it with you, you don't have to pay taxes since it is your personal stuff.
