How many expats in Xalapa Xavier 8-25-07  
I would like to know how many expats are in Xalapa?

Not that I want to contact them, but it is good to know. Is there an association that keeps track (hopefully not)?

I have asked this same question in another group and it seems there may be 20 or so. Hopefully, someone in Jalapa will set us straight.

If I make any money here in Mexico it will be very little. I did wonder about paying taxes though. It looks like the Mexican authorities don't really worry much about foreigners with small incomes in Mexico. This news agrees well with other observations I have encountered about Mexico. I believe the authorities want retired people to live here for the economic boost they provide. In addition, retired folks are not (for the most part) drunken troublemakers. Actually, many of them are involved in constructive pursuits which benefit the communities they live in. I know the retired community is very well integrated in Mazatlan, where it is estimated about 8,000 extranjeros make their retirement dreams come true.

I asked at the local Mexican immigration office how many North Americans are rentistas here in Xalapa and was given an extimate of 400. Of course there is a large and fluctuating number of people involved with the universities. They tend to come and go I assume.
