New car or old? Jeanine 2-22-08
We have a new car, very nice, but are now considering a move to Mexico. Should we trade it in for an older car since we don't want to attract unwanted attention, or does it matter?

I wonder because I don't know how the local population will view us being expats and "flashy."

Dear Jeanine,
Dependent on what car you have, there are many new cars in mex. of the US. If you have a BMW, Mercedes, or the like, it might be better for safety's sake to have the chev., ford, or chrysler. But as I said, many expats. have newer cars. One item on the car you don't want are tinted front windows for the driver and passenger.

Of course there is always the attention you will bring by having US plates. But this is not unusual here as many Mexicans that have lived in the US bring back American cars for their own use.
If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask such as: registration for your car here in Mex. which permits you to stay here and not have to renew the sticker every 6 months.
