Resale of vehicles, or trade-in? Keith 3-30-08  
I have a 1998 vehicle, which is obviously not new, and have very low miles. I was wondering if I brought this vehicle down when I move to Mexico, and then decide to buy a newer car, will I get a good resale value, or is a trade-in the way to go, or should I make that move now, while in the States?

Not sure about the used car market in Mexico...

Since your vehicle is 10 years old, you shouldn't have any problems selling or trading an American vehicle in Mex. However, there are some things to consider. Your yearly registration on a Mexican vehicle is in the neighborhood of $400 or $500 dollars or more for a big SUV. Personally, I would trade the vehicle in in the U.S. and register the care here in Mex. as an import-no cost. In this way you don't have to return to the U.S. every 6 months to renew the sticker on your American vehicle. The cars here are more expensive and the trade ins are worth more. So it amounts to the same. Maybe someone out there knows of more options.
