How far is the beach? Which one the best? Derek 6-15-09  
I was wondering if the beach is close? I see on Google maps that it is about 46 miles, but the beaches don't look developed in the satellite view. How far is it? And which beach would you recommend for a lazy day (with the ability to buy a beer, snack, etc)?

Dear Derek,
Good beaches are about 1 1/2 hours from Xalapa. The beaches North of Vera Cruz city are pristin and clean. You can enjoy a beer and freshly caught fish. Playa Esmeralda is developed with motels and beach houses at a very resonable price out of season. You will find what you need there. The drive is about 2 or 3 hours from Xalapa.
