Solar-hydrogen power for home Keith 10-24-08
I was wondering, since I hear that utilities out in the country have such frequent problems, if anyone has installed solar power along with a hydrogen generator to produce power, heat and hot water for their house? I have seen some videos on this and wondered how many are installed?

Here's some info I found:
Wind and Solar power

There has been talk about the installations from some expatriates in the area. If they actually do anything about it I don't know. Xalapa itself has a good deal of cloudy weather so the batteries would have to be state of the art. Hydrogen is difficult to transport and is not readily available. Electricity is not too much of a problem. I live in a rural area of Coatepec 10 minutes from Xalapa and I have no problems except during "some" storms, but CFE (the electric company) is usually on the job within an hour. It depends how far you want to live from the main transformer as to the cost and service. The rules in a rural area apply similarly to the U.S.

How's the wind in the area? I wonder if a combination Solar and Wind-turbine setup would be able to handle the generation of power sufficiently? -pondering-

The batteries that seem to be used most in power storage are the deep-cycle batteries (marine batteries), and about six are used.

In my opinion this would be a great option if the utilities companies are a hassle (which it sounds like they're not), or if someone would just want to "go green."

Thanks for your input...

The wind in the Xalapa area is not sufficient for wind turbines. In some of the surrounding mountains there is enough, but here or in Coatepec wind turbines would be a waste of money.
