Driving in and around Xalapa? Quentin 5-15-09  
In other cities in Mexico, it is a bear to find streets since the city signs are minimal or non-existent. Is this the case with Xalapa? How are the street signs, road layout, ability to find addresses, etc?

Unfortunately, Xalapa is the same. The city is putting up new street signs, but it is a slow process. However, the local neighborhood knows where the streets are and the map of Xalapa is pretty good. As in other Mexican cities and towns, some of the streets are narrow, but not impossible to negotiate. All in all, Xalapa is typical even though there are quite a few street projects going on. Sorry the news is not more positive.

If you are still in Xalapa, go to the Callejon Diamente, since there are lots of restaurants which are popular with locals and tourists.

Walking near the Zocalo (central square) is also a good idea, since there are lots of locals around who can tell you about good places to eat.
